The sky in this painting is one of the first skies I ever recorded. Again, this was on the journey to the SW Region of Saudi Arabia in 1980 with the team of archaeologists led by Dr Juris Zarins. Dr Zarins, from Missouri State University, was involved in extensive archaeological fieldwork in Saudi Arabia at the time.
The whole project was set into motion and organized by Dr Abdullah Masry who was Director of the Department of Anitiquities and Museums of Saudi Arabia.
The trip to the South West Region was a survey and it lasted three months. During that time I produced about 150 pages of sketches recording the journey and all that we saw: landscapes, archaeology, architecture, even skies.. It was an unforgettable experience.
