Oil paints and gold leaf on panel, 14ins x 10ins
In the 1980s I learned the craft of water gilding techniques (i.e.working with gold leaf) and for a period produced a number of small panels such as the two on this page. In this picture the outer gilded frame and the white ‘slip’ were made by a professional framer of great distinction in Kings Road, Chelsea, called Alfred Hecht. Sadly Alfred Hecht is no longer with us but he worked for some well-known artists. You would recognise his frames on paintings, for instance, of Francis Bacon. The inner area of the picture (with the golf leaf, embossed patterns and the central painting) are by myself. The painting below was produced as a pair to the painting on the left.
